Spread The Wealth by Creating A Metal Detecting Club
Friday, October 7th, 2011If you have a number of friends who are interested in metal detecting or treasure hunting as a hobby, consider forming your own club! You will create opportunities to meet new people, share tips and suggestions, get information on the most recent treasure hunting technology and trade interesting stories about your various expeditions.
Once you make the decision to start your own club, you may have some questions before you get started. For example, what is the best way to begin? Where do you locate potential participants?
1. Write out an effective advertising piece for a newspaper in your area that informs people of the club’s purpose, and the date, time, and place of the first meeting.
2. Check out the submission guidelines of your preferred treasure hunting publications to see if they will post ads. Ask if they would mind advertising your club in their next issue.
3. Some local radio, cable and public televisions stations host community advertisements that you can place a notice with.
You should also personally contact everybody you already know who shares your hobby.
Something else to do is place information on the church bulletin board, tell other local publications and ask for an announcement at the civic club.
When you do all this you are sure to bring in a few members at the very least. What is the next step?
1. Once you’ve gotten together a group of members, you need to formulate a mission statement. Come to an agreement about goals and activities. Will your group become politically involved? Will you have an agenda or will your meetings be exclusively recreational?
2. How formal or informal do you want your meetings to be? The answer to this question will be the deciding factor in how the rest of the following questions are answered.
3. How will your group settle disputes and disagreements? Will there be some sort of voting procedure and if so, will decisions be made by the majority or by consensus?
4. Where will you meet, in a private home, Will it be at the community center? or a local church?
Now you need to decide upon the leader. Standard practice is that the individual who organized the initial meeting be the Chairperson for the first several meetings. You will likely need a secretary or someone who will make note of the topics discussed at your meetings.
6. Have a club sponsored activity take place as promptly as you can. This will help to spur people’s interest in coming up with and organizing activities as well as being a part of all the enjoyment.
Your members are there because they love to treasure hunt, so give them opportunities to do so. Most of all, make sure you have a great time.
